I am proud of my brown skin, the unique blend that was carved out for me, that is the fullness of my identity.
I am content with my ‘lived experience’, my pain, the long cast shadow that reminds me I am not ‘the same’.
It is a strength that gives me the ability to form connections with those sisters that seem to know me immediately.
They inspire me to disregard the low expectations.
They say ‘do it anyway’, because they know my real potential.
I am proud of my sisters, the ones who have given me light, the ones who tell me to put my all into my dreams, and know exactly what my pride means.
